The Chief was the train that launched the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (The Santa Fe). Part of the Sante Fe Railway company, the Chief passenger train inaugurated on 14th Nov 1926. The journey from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles California took some staggering 63 hours. It was five hours faster than any competitor service. In its glory days the Chief carried famous personalities across country.

The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, distinctively known as the Santa Fe is one of the worlds most recognized and famous railroads. It is a movie made about it and songs sung in its honour. The Santa Fe became an industrial icon when it introduced The Chief passenger train in late 1926 and The Super Chief a few years later.
