Australia Koala and Joey - Australian Travel Poster
This poster was designed by Designed by Harry Rogers for Qantas.
This delightful poster was created by Harry Rogers and printed by Litho in Australia for Qantas in the 1960’s. The original poster was a multi-colour screen print on white paper. The iconic Australian symbol, a koala and her joey take centre position, illustrated on a deep blue ground. 'Australia' is printed at top within a red rectangle with a vapour trail behind pointing to a silhouette of a Boeing 707.
'In Association with Air India, B.O.A.C., S.A.A., and TEAL.'
Harry Rogers studied animation at UCLA in California which echoed in his famous Qantas posters. He enjoyed a long, prosperous association with Qantas as a freelance designer. He designed the iconic Qantas logo font in the mid-1960's and his magnificent posters made use of bold, readily identifiable images and vivid colours that were typical of the period.
Harry Rogers was commissioned by Qantas to create a series of posters for an advertising campaign promoting overseas destinations to Australian travellers. He had an extensive and productive association with Qantas as a freelance graphic designer. He developed many uniquely innovative techniques for each poster series from the 1950s through to the 1970s. Rogers' designs embraced diverse styles such as geometrics, watercolours, collage and oils; exploiting the latest in printing, typesetting and photo technology.
