The Artwork for the original colour lithograph was created by Gert Sellheim for the Australian National Travel Association [ANTA] and printed in Melbourne by Troedel & Cooper Pty, Ltd in 1930.
Sellheim created many posters for the Australian National Travel Association and promoting Australian beach culture as trendy and desirable was a common theme. Beach culture quickly became a way of life in Australia during the 1930’s and Melbourne’s public transport systems provided holidaymakers access to the beaches of Port Phillip Bay. From the late 1920s, Australia first began to seriously promote itself to the world by using the beach, sun, and surf as themes. Catchphrases such as 'For sun and surf' and 'Sunshine and surf' were displayed across many of the attention-grabbing advertisements and posters of this period.
